what are staff in schools using to baseline and measure progress in motor skills, after 48 months upwards please?
Hi Ali, thankyou for your question. I do not have the answer but I hope that someone else in this group does. Are you thinking that teachers will be monitoring motor skills or that this will be physical therapists? It may vary by country and by the supports available for motor development in schools.
Thank you for your reply Sue. Yes am in UK and focus is heavily on Language Literacy and maths ( as expected). Independent play skills and more social play skills are really my focus and some schools get on board with this. Our OFSTED often looks for measures of progress but think individual targets using Goal Attainment Scaling could work. The staff usually want me to write them which is tricky as Im not in each school a lot and better if they can write outcomes and measure progress. Im hoping to write 2 for some aspects of play ie small world play and see if they can manage this. The school currently follows the ideas and suggestions but are very anxious about OFSTED. Thanks for the conversation.
sorry I didn’t reply re motor skills. In UK the children rarely get an occupational therapist in mainstream school once they are about 5/6 years. Teachers will put in a small group intervention and monitor this-just basic skills working through the age bands.
